FREDERICK CHOPIN'S STAY AS A TOURIST ATTRACTION IN THE TOWN OF VALLDEMOSSA, MALLORCA, SPAIN
Abstract
Cultural tourism is one of the fastest growing segments in the tourism sector worldwide and a decisive factor in the local development of many towns, which until recently had no options to participate in this productive sector.
The aim of this work is to study the impact, from the point of view of cultural tourism, of the binomial historical or recognised personage-population, through an analytical-descriptive methodology of the case of the town of Valldemossa, located in Mallorca, Balearic Islands, in Spain, which has turned the winter stay of the famous musical composer Frederick Chopin and his companion George Sand between 1838 and 1839 into a cultural tourist attraction of the first order.
The analysis of the implementation process and the actions that have been carried out to achieve this development will show how this model can be applied in another locality in which the described binomial is present, contributing in an outstanding way to the economic and social development of the same and its areas of influence.
