THE ROLE OF MUSEUMS IN CONTEMPORARY CITIES: THE CASE OF THE CITY OF A CORUÑA
Abstract
In recent decades, in response to the growth of cultural tourism and, in parallel to the search for a renewed image of the destinations, many cities have opted to expand their museum offerings. This is the case of the study presented here, the city of A Coruña. The aim of this study is to analyze the role played by the network of scientific museums in A Coruña in the current tourism framework and in the future development of the city's tourism model. For this purpose, a qualitative research method has been chosen, which aims to know the vision that the actors linked to the tourist activity have of these cultural spaces. Given the considerable degree of obsolescence of these museums, the results obtained point to the need to reconsider these investments and their objectives.
