PROMOTION OF THE TOURISM SECTOR IN TABASCO: THE CASE OF THE YUMKÁ ECOLOGICAL RESERVE IN VILLAHERMOSA, MEXICO.
Abstract
The Yumká Center for Interpretation and Coexistence with Nature is an ecological life reserve located in a rural area, 15 kilometers from the city of Villahermosa. Since its foundation in 1987,its mission has been to conserve the species and ecosystems belonging to the ecological area of the state, as well as to promote the strengthening of values that allow a harmonious relationship between nature and society. However, over the years it has had the problem of not conserving animal life, since after its multiple administrations there has been the death of several species of animals, which has led to economic losses. The lack of control and care in the ecological reserve exposes the administrative and management incapacity, which results in an unfavorable attraction as a center for interpretation and coexistence. Therefore, the importance of the reserve is essential because it is part of the state's tourist attraction, establishing a concept that is susceptible to ecological and rural tourism: ecotourism. Ecotourism has the main function of converting the ecosystems as a fundamental source of income, since it is established as a tourist activity that is developed without altering the environmental balance and avoiding damage to nature, which leads to sustainable tourism in order to generate income and employment for the local and rural population and at the same time contributes to development.
