Abstract

This paper analyzes local tourism specifically in the city of Cunduacán, a municipality in the state of Tabasco. This municipality houses the second oldest Catholic church in the state, the "Las Mirandillas Church," built in 1724 on the land of the first representative of the Cortes of Cádiz. The objective of this study is to implement a public policy to encourage local tourism and support the community in pursuing an economic activity in this sector: cultural tourism. The methodology used in this research was qualitative, prioritizing the use of observational, documentary, and historical techniques. The results of this study reveal a lack of awareness among the community, as well as among municipal and state authorities, regarding the importance of this historic monument.

No public or private support was found to encourage local tourism. It is proposed that authorities work with the community to promote and raise awareness of this cultural and historical heritage and its direct impact on the local economy at the state and national levels
