The valuation of the landscape from the account of the pilgrims in Talpa de Allende, Jalisco
Abstract
For more than 200 years, the Pilgrim's Route has been part of the historical and symbolic memory of pilgrims. Although the motivations for traveling it are often diverse, there is a common thread in the stories surrounding the landscape observed and experienced. As a result, the route's low appreciation and cultural and environmental disconnection have led to significant environmental impacts. The objective of this study was to analyze the pilgrims' stories and their connection to the landscape, based on their histories, traditions, and experiences. To accomplish this, a qualitative methodology was used through pilgrims' life stories. The stories obtained seek to elevate the value of the landscape and its preservation along the Pilgrim's Route. Therefore, by sharing their emotional and cultural connections with the environment, the aim was to raise social and collective awareness about the importance of preserving the landscape along the route and the sense of identity it provides.
